I received this fantastic email from Juliana Gallin after my show the other day:

Sissel might have been kind of shy with you today, but when we got to my mom’s house you should have heard her describing the bowling ball trick. She described every detail, with her eyes as big as saucers.

And she totally mastered the mind-reading trick. We practiced it with 2 cards, then with 3, and then 4. She was so smooth. We did the trick multiple times for my mother, sister, and brother-in-law, an no one could guess the technique! We really had them stumped! It was so adorable.

We’re both looking forward to seeing you do more maaaaaagic!

I heard from a little someone that your show was, in her words, AMAZING. And as her eyes got bigger and bigger until they took up about half her face, she described, while miming the whole thing and jumping with joy, you turning a piece of paper into a bowling ball. Then she did card tricks forever! Staunchly refused to tell me how she did it. Told me that not telling was part of magic. And then gave a tiny little knowing smirk to let me know I could push no further. She made up a couple of her own tricks. Berry funny. When you have another show I want to come!

San Francisco Magician Robert Strong

If you ask me, the word “incredible” has been bandied about so lightly of late that it has come to signify not much of anything. Ah, enter comedy magician Robert Strong, the sorcerer who puts the disbelief back into “incredible” because the incredible is what he does every time he makes the impossible seem routine.

When he cuts that tie in half right before your eyes, okay, simple enough, audacious perhaps, and certainly more than a little meddlesome. But even the hapless fool who has volunteered his tie laughs. He sits through the performance with half an expensive tie, and by the end of the evening, almost as an after-thought, Robert calls him back to the stage. Whiz bang, Robert’s hands do something undetectable and the man’s tie is whole again. Not even wrinkled! You can feel the “whew!” in the air. Robert just smiles at what, for him, is the ordinariness of it all.

How does Robert do it? I don’t know. He won’t tell. There is something beautiful about his code of silence. Honorable. He knows we don’t want to know how the lady is sawed in half or how he runs the film backward on that severed tie. The fun is in the mystery. Robert is not just the magician. He is the magic. He is having such a fine time of it all that we laugh with him. We trust this inveterate mischief-maker not to disappoint us (see him at work in Berkeley) . We know we are out of harm’s way in his swift reliable hands. Danger is just an illusion. Safety is his reality.

Comedy magician? Yes. With Robert the comedy would be entertainment enough, the magic ditto. The blend is Robert’s long standing magic act that he has been doing since the age of twelve.

High spirits and joy follow in Robert’s wake. He says his job is to make events extraordinary. And does he ever! It isn’t so easy to gasp and laugh and scream with disbelief simultaneously, but that is what he evokes. You think you can watch more carefully next time and see what he does. Watch all you want. You will not see what he does; just the bewildering results. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this gleeful marvel in action you are missing something astounding. But, even as busy as he is performing in San Francisco, and elsewhere, you will be able to catch up with him. His website is up to date, so you can find him.

And, as if the magic is not enough of a career, Robert is co-founder, co-producer and emcee of San Francisco’s Comedy Talks; Conversations With the Legends of Comedy. With all his accomplishments he is a sweet and modest man whose gratitude is never overshadowed by the light of his success.

And, he knows how to do something ordinary that has bewitching results; that is writing a love letter. To hear the joy in Robert’s voice as he tells the story of how he became a magician is a treat in itself.

I have been performing Comedy Magic since 1985 and have done it all. The list is long and includes birthday parties, school shows, street performing, comedy clubs, malls, festivals, theaters, performing arts centers, Bar Mitzvahs, graduations, Holiday Parties, First Nights, colleges, universities, international tours, Las Vegas review shows, cruise ships, corporate shows, trade shows, sales seminars, product launches, retreats, hospitality suites, commercials, TV, film, and much more. Ann S: Loved watching Robert Strong perform–he brought such fun to a recent 70th birthday party event. All ages responded to his humor and ability to engage guests. I would recommend him in a minute.

Tyree J: Robert’s act works for all audiences. Yet he stands out not just because he’s funny, clever, and personable but that  he’s a professional entertainer who keeps his commitments. May 14th Robert helped set up the TED talks at Stanford in the morning, rushed over to Alameda to give 45 minute performance on the USS Hornet for th District 57 Toastmasters conference at 2 PM . Then he headed back to Stanford to close out the TED talks. As a general policy Toastmasters offers little if any compensation  to anyone presenting at their conferences. I appreciate Robert sharing his tips on humor and encouragement to a novice such as myself. He is thoughtful and easy to work with, which btw is not always the norm in his business. No doubt he’s a five star recommendation!

Eric C: Mr. Strong puts on one helluva fun show. He’s charming, funny, goofy, and quite the talented magician. I’ve seen Mr. Strong perform a few times and each time he gets the audience involved and laughing. Everyone has a wonderful time watching Mr. Strong do his magic. I believe he’d be a great addition to any celebration or corporate event. We’re going to book him for our next gig!

David S: What, you can’t rate Six Stars? This is a travesty. Robert Strong is hysterical, and has some of the most creative tricks I’ve seen from a magicians. I have seen him perform multiple times, had him on one of my shows. He’s always a huge hit. My cousins saw him in DC and couldn’t stop talking about him. He works a room unbelievably well and he’s great at getting the audience involved in his tricks. He’s also a great dancer. But he won’t let me lead.

Janet G: Robert Strong is, to cut to the chase, fabulous. He was recently an emcee at a rather formal event and brought such fun and snap to the whole evening. His magic tricks are just that: magic. Happy Thanksgiving! There is SO much to be thankful for this year. I want to start by thanking all my clients for their business, I have had a blast entertaining your guests. I have introduced nearly an hour of new and original magic into my show this year. It has been so much fun, I feel like that 12 year old who just discovered the hobby of magic for the first time.
